Karen has been an entrepreneur since the age of 24 and founded the We Trade Network in 2000 in Montana, U.S. Karen was elected to the board of the National Association of Trade Exchanges (NATE) in 2009, and served a 3 year term as Secretary of the Board. Karen currently serves on IRTA’s Universal Currency Committee.
After the Great Recession of 2008, Karen’s awareness deepened about the role that trade/barter systems (non-cash forms of trade) have to play in the larger economy. She is passionate about working for this sector to become better organized, better educated and wants to develop greater cooperation to expand its presence in the economy in the U.S. and in the World. Karen believes that expansion only has value if it includes standards and best practices.
